Who We Are
The purpose of Peace Lutheran Church is to express by Word and Deed the Love of God revealed in Jesus Christ to those within and to those outside its fellowship.
Peace Lutheran Church is a dynamic, growing community of believers based in St. Joseph, Michigan. Our congregation is part of the North American Lutheran Church.
Peace was founded October 31, 1993, and has a multi-dimensional Lutheran heritage. In 1993, Peace was affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America, but many of our founding members brought the traditions of The Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod with them. In May 2011, the congregation of Peace Lutheran Church voted to leave the ELCA and join the NALC.
The NALC encompasses more than 400 congregations across North America and stands at the theological center of Lutheranism. The NALC has four core values: Christ-Centered, Mission-Driven, Traditionally Grounded and Congregationally Focused. To learn more about the NALC, please click here.
As part of our mission to express the Love of God to those outside our fellowship, Peace reaches out into our community in several ways. Our Quilters provide quilts for local veterans, children in the Lutheran Social Services network and residents of local nursing homes. Our members support the local soup kitchen. We also a provide hats and mittens for the local schools.
