A Message from Pastor Steve

To the Members and Friends of Peace Lutheran Church:

Tonight (March 16th) the Church Council decided to follow the recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and immediately cancel all events and activities at our congregation through Palm Sunday, April 5th.  This includes Sunday School, Sunday Worship, Youth Group, Tuesday Prayer Meeting, Wednesday Lenten Suppers and Worship, Thursday Men’s Bible Study, Choir Practice, Saturday Men’s Bible Study, and Sisters in the Spirit.

Beginning on Sunday, March 22nd we will have available a video of the Sunday lessons, a homily, and Prayers of the Church.  Pastor Steve and one or two others to help in the recording will be present.  No other people will be in the building.  It is hoped that this message will help us feel connected to each other and to worship our Lord- though it will be awkward at best.

For those needing to come to the church, the building will be open during office hours each week, Monday – Thursday, 9:00 a.m. till noon.  If you would like to come and pray, please avail yourself of this opportunity.

This decision was not made lightly.  Concern for neighbor, the concern that asymptomatic people might be transmitting the COVID-19 virus has caused us to err on the side of caution.  We will be praying that this virus does not cause the devastation it has in other countries like Italy and Iran, while at the same time putting in place the precautions to prevent the spread of the virus.

Please look for additional updates from Peace in the coming days.  We realize that not holding church is a drastic measure, yet it is one that seems the least worst choice.  To quote Michael Leavitt, an American politician who served as the 14th Governor of Utah from 1993 to 2003 in the Republican Party, as Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency from 2003 to 2005 and as Secretary of Health and Human Services from 2005 to 2009,

“Everything we do before a pandemic will seem alarmist. Everything we do after will seem inadequate.”

May God keep each of us safe and may we be shielded from this deadly virus.

On behalf of the Church Council,

Pastor Steve
